Gelato. It’s sweet, it’s everywhere on the streets of Rome, and I would’ve died in the heat without it.
I’m not gonna lie, some days when I couldn’t stand the sweltering heat, I would get gelato two (sometimes three times a day). No shame.
I lived about 4 minutes from the Vatican, so I had a few hot spots I liked to visit while I was in Rome:
Fridgidarium: about a 10 minute walk from Cast Sant’ Angelo. Its cool because you have the option of having your gelato dipped in white or dark chocolate! My favorite favors were Fridgidarium and Stracciatella
Millennium Gelato: right around the corner from my apartment on Via Candia and they have a huge selection of flavors to choose from. My favorite: LOVED the fragola!! It tastes like a strawberry banana shake and the taste of strawberries is so fresh in your mouth.
Old Bridge Gelato: literally across the street from the north side of the Vatican. The line for this joint is literally down the block whenever I’ve passed by it and for good reason too. Their cookie gelato is TO DIE FOR!
Just a final note on Italian gelato: make sure you pay attention to the look and quality of the gelato before you eagerly hand your money over. If the gelato looks flat, pale, and half-filled in the tubs early on in the morning, it’s probably leftover and old. Watch out! There are plenty of touristy places like these and they usually rip you off on your money.
Hope this post helps! Talk to you guys soon.
